The racing season is now in full swing with a busy programme of events involving local riders. the mid-week time trial at Ashby Pastures on the 22nd had 8 competitors on a cool evening. James Ison took first place in 20mins 53 secs, Chris Walker continued early good season form in second with Stuart Faver in third. With handicap’s applied Gary Ison came in first, James Ison second with Andrew Keightley with another third place.
Saturday had Mapperley open 10 mile time trial on the A46 starting at Gunthorpe junction and finishing at Car Colston exit, Gary Ison was the fastest Melton rider on the day in 23 mins 58 secs, with Mark Saunders just behind in 24 mins 20 secs. The overall winner was Adam Duggleby in a fantastic time of 18 mins 56 secs,
Sunday was the day for Melton’s Mid Summer and Championship 25 time trial at Granby. Extremely strong winds buffeted riders all morning, a good tail wind helped down long lane producing several personal best on this section of the course, this was negated with head and side winds around the rest of the circuit. In these testing conditions it was remarkable that James Ison flew round in a new club course record of 54 mins 39 secs, second place went to evergreen veteran John Atkin, in 1 hour 8 mins 25 secs, third in for Melton Andrew Keightley in 1 hour 10 mins 26 secs. James time was fast enough to take the handicap win, Debbie Shaw’s time of 1 hour 17 mins 33 secs was enough for second with Andrew Keightley again in third. Debbie was also ladies champion, with John Atkin the victor on standard.
